How Khalid Namra Started Building MKFIT
The origin story of MKFIT — from Namra Tech to a chance conversation with Coach Mohamed Khaled that turned into the Arab world's AI fitness platform.
How Khalid Namra Started Building MKFIT
Every product has an origin story. MKFIT's starts at the intersection of two things: Khalid Namra's decade of building SaaS for Arab businesses, and one specific frustration about how the Arab fitness industry was operating.
The Namra Tech decade
Before MKFIT, Khalid spent 10+ years building Namra Tech — a SaaS company shipping business tools to thousands of Arab entrepreneurs. The pattern was clear: small and mid-sized Arab businesses were paying global-market prices for software that only half-fit their needs, and duct-taping local tools for the rest.
Fitness was worse than most industries. Not because the coaches or gym owners were less serious — they were often more — but because no one was building for them.
The turning point
The pattern crystallized in conversations with Coach Mohamed Khaled, one of the region's most respected coaches. His question was direct: "Why does a coach with 100 clients in Cairo have worse tools than a coach with 20 clients in Toronto?"
He was right. And it wasn't a coaching problem — it was a tools problem.
The bet
Two founders. Two skills.
- Khalid — 10+ years of building multi-tenant SaaS that Arab businesses actually use.
- Coach MK — the methodology, the standards, the coaching craft the AI would be trained on.
The bet: combine them into a platform that doesn't force Arab operators to choose between global software (that doesn't fit) and local tools (that don't scale).
The first year
Year one wasn't glamorous. It was:
- Talking to hundreds of Arab gym owners, coaches, and academy operators.
- Mapping every workflow — the ones they wanted, and the ones they were embarrassed to admit they were doing in WhatsApp.
- Building the multi-tenant architecture that could serve a solo coach and a 15-branch chain on the same core.
- Training the AI layer on Coach MK's methodology as an anchor.
Where MKFIT is now
MKFIT is the first Arabic-native, AI-first fitness platform, serving gyms, coaches, and academies from a single system. Still early. Still building. But the thesis is holding: Arab operators want first-class tools that were designed for them.
